More Triangulation

Re: Suzanne’s awesome post, which was linked to by Andrew Sullivan (!), here’s yet more evidence that the Clinton campaign is in the midst of waging a concerted, aggressive triangulation strategy, this time coming from the mouth of Mark Penn (via The Page):

“Independent and Republican support is diminishing as they find out he’s the most liberal Democratic senator… As they get more of a sense that he’s not ready to be Commander-in-Chief, a lot of Independents who were supporting him are disappearing.” [emphasis added]

Penn is of course referring to the hotly-disputed National Journal rankings, which conveniently ranked John Kerry as the most liberal senator in 2004.  But whatever.  The larger point is that in Hillary Clinton’s and Mark Penn’s world, being considered “liberal” is toxic – a rare moment of honesty for them.
