Hello and welcome to Back Alley Media.

Clinton’s independent run

Sebastian started musing about this scenario almost two weeks ago (here and here), and now a diarist over at Kos has laid out practically the exact same argument.  As Sebastian pointed out, forging on even as an independent seems increasingly to be the only logical, inevitable trajectory of Clinton’s campaign.  She’s been going for broke for a long time now.

Plus, it allows her to continue the game of chicken:  she might run independent, knowing she will be splitting the vote with Obama, in order to force a joint ticket — presumably with her on top, if she can manage to poll better than him for a long enough spell.

I seriously doubt it will happen. The only reason she’d do it would be if she wants to really destroy the party’s chances, as well as her own career. The big difference between this and the Lamont-Lieberman situation is that there’s a viable Republican candidate in this race, who would win with near certainty if the Democratic vote was split.
