Inconceivable!
Followup on Red Meat for Moderates - apparently McCain/Palin have put out a statement concerning the book banning story that goes something like this (from Smith at Politico):
Palin at the time said she was just inquiring about the library’s policy on banning books, with no aim of actually banning any. “It was a rhetorical quesiton — nothing more,” the McCain-Palin campaign said in a memo yesterday. And no books were banned, the town says.
Okay, so…why were you inquiring about the policy on banning books? I mean, would the Right think it was okay if someone said to the FBI that they were only inquiring about how to build bombs, or whether you could learn to fly a plane without learning how to land it. Why would you inquire, if you weren’t interested?
Besides, I’m not sure if they know what the word rhetorical means. You don’t officially inquire about something rhetorically.
Will this be enough of an explanation to kill this story - for the average undecided, I mean?
